An alternative to traditional treatment - By Dick Benz

I want to give you information about an alternative to secular Alcohol & Drug treatment
for women with life-threatening addictions.  Almost one out of every three families suffers from some type addictive behavior and in most cases the family members or parents don’t have any idea where to turn for help. There is Christian help available.

About six years ago, my wife Nicki and I began a ministry of First Baptist Church, Jackson, Mississippi, to women in the Hinds County Jail.  Quickly we saw that women serve their time or bond out and within 90 days they are right back in jail again.  When they leave jail they have the clothes on their back, no money, no job, and no skills to obtain a decent job just a drug dealer or pimp waiting to pick them up.  Most of them have been in numerous secular treatment centers with no visible positive sustainable results. We knew something had to be done to break the cycle of jail, crime, drugs, men and jail.  As we ministered in jail, we sensed God’s urge to establish Buried Treasures Home, Inc., as a home for women without any hope or resources.

If lasting success is to be achieved, the addict must leave their familiar surroundings, get away from their friends and sometimes family (Romans 12:2a).  This means they must get out of town and begin a new life.  Women who have been removed from their old environment more quickly settle down to letting Christ begin a new life in them.

Buried Treasures Home offers women a Christ based one year residential discipleship program.  To our knowledge, there is not another center like this in the Mid-south to help guide addicts into surrendering their heart, mind, soul and strength to Jesus Christ.  By making Jesus Christ the center of our program, we differ from other faith based centers in two aspects.  First, residents receive weekly individual and group counseling from the BTH staff using the Christian 12-step program.  Professional counseling continues on a weekly basis for one year. Past hurts and abusive behavior must be addressed before they can begin trusting Jesus to control their lives.  Second, after about six months, ladies are directed into an educational program, usually at Hinds Community College.  With education and skills required to enter a career, these women will graduate from Buried Treasures Home with a Biblical pattern of success in life, home, family, church and the workplace.

We are available to talk with anyone who wants more information about recovery, our program or other centers that may fit a need.  Call us toll free at 1-888-932-5505 or e-mail at nickibenz@yahoo.com. I have enclosed some information about our Home for your review.
